Doll Quality

“Our Quality range of Traditional Russian Dolls are handcrafted by artists working within the Golden Ring of Russia...”

The Golden Ring region of Russia is an ancient pilgrimage and merchants route that is renown for it's many quality craftsmen who plied their trade along this route; this included wooden Toy Makers in the City of Sergiev Posad, who originated the very first Russian Doll in 1884.

We ensure that all our dolls are selected from artists who work within this region, with many of our 350 Artists based in the City of Sergiev Posad; we can maintain that our range of dolls are completely authentic.

All of our dolls are hand made in the traditional way, with hand selected and seasoned wood, which is individually hand-turned by wood turners and prepared to produce wooden blanks. Painters who then individually paint each doll in the set, purchase these blanks and give them a life all their own. This results in each doll being truly unique and one of a kind.

The Golden Ring acknowledges the traditional craftsmanship in our dolls with the Trademark of Quality that identifies and brands the doll as being:

“Hand made in Russia * Sergiev Posad - Birthplace of the Original Russian Doll.”

Further Information

Quality Assurance
As craftsmen, from the wood turner through to the painter, have inspected each doll we expect that each doll will be of the highest craft standard available. If however you feel that there is faults in the doll, then please contact us for assistance, as many a time the fault can be quickly rectified over the phone, especially dolls that appear to be stuck.
CE Compliance
As all our Russian dolls are hand-painted and are not manufactured in any form, it is not practical to CE test each individual doll. Therefore even though our artists use modern lead-free paints, we recommend that Russian Dolls should not be considered as being a childs Toy, as it is more of a collectable item rather than a childs play item.
If a doll is to be given to a child we recommend that the doll is given to a child aged 36-months or over. For further safety, please ensure to remove the smallest doll in the centre to avoid any possible choking hazard.

Our range is very extensive, but very unique as all the Matryoshka Dolls have been hand painted and created by artists working in the region traditionally known as The Golden Ring of Russia.
